Proactiv Bleaches Eyebrows, Hair, Clothes?

I was watching some of Fran's videos the other day. If you don't know Fran, she is the owner of High on Health, which is a fantastic website.

Anyway, I noticed that in one of her videos, she mentioned something about Procativ bleaching her towels.

Although benzoyl peroxide (the active acne fighting ingredient in Proactiv), is a bleaching agent, this has honestly never happened to me.

Does Proactiv Bleach Your Skin?

I wanted to mention this in a post, because Proactiv has never bleached my eyebrows, hair, clothes, my pillow, or anything else that I can think of.

However, I wanted to ask you if Proactiv has ever bleached any of your belongings, or any of you.

Feel free to comment below.

By the way, for a complete guide to Proactiv, be sure to check out my Proactiv Questions and Answers article.

It also bleaches my towels, I notice because I never use white towels. But it hasn't bleached anything else :)

That can happen, but I am still yet to notice it.

Yes this has happened to a lot of my clothes because after applying the Repairing Lotions I tend to clean my hands off on my bum or my thighs but I'm wearing my PJ's when I do so I didn't care. They did bleach my eyebrows though.

Proactiv- ruined towels, clothes (even when I thought nothing was left on my face), and eyebrows.

I've been using it for about 6 weeks and I've just noticed that my brown eyebrows are a disturbing yellowy orange colour it's so embarrassing.

I've been using Proactiv for 2 weeks now and now have 3 new expensive towels that have been bleached. Funny how they don't mention that in their add campaigns...thank you proactiv!

I recognized it bleached my towels and turned some of my eyebrow hairs from black to brown, but it works really well.

the book that comes with it talks about the bleaching

I've been using proactiv for over 8 years and it has just recently bleached my eyebrows and my hair line. I naturally have dark blond hair so it doesn't really bother me. I would definitely recommend proactive just be careful around your eyebrows when appling it.

yeah i've been using proactive now for about 3m months now and not only has it bleached my eyebrows, but it has bleached my towels, clothes and pillowcases. I'd say its a rather high price for clear skin.

Well I have never heard of my sister saying that it bleached any of her thing such as the peopl above. Id just say becareful when going around your eyebrows for lighter colored hair

Proactiv bleached a section of a shirt that I wiped my sweaty face on several hours after using it--sweat can re-activate the bleaching potential for clothing, it seems. Proactiv also bleaches my eyebrows, but I like that. It makes them slightly lighter so I can dye them easily with gentle John Freida Radiant Red Luminous Color Glaze to match my dyed red hair.

It bleached my towels!

The carpet will get bleached if you spill or squirted some that get on the carpet, so I have like 5 orange spots (about 1 inch in diameter) on the light brown carpet.

It bleaches clothing/fabric, carpet, towels, hair, eyebrow.

For hair and eyebrows, you will usually noticed them being bleach after awhile. Whereas, for fabric, you will most likely notice color change a day after or after washing.

If you play sports that would make you sweat, don't put on the repairing lotion before you play, because you will tend to wipe your sweat on your clothing, thus bleaching them. One of my clothing, it was dark purple, it's noticeable around the collar and the sleeves.

As for bleaching skin, my skin still looks the same, it doesn't seems to bleach the skin.

It bleaches my eyebrows yes.. Nothing else, only my eyebrows. It looks silly because I have brown hair -_- I love proactiv.. it works great for my skin =) I just wish I could figure out a way to keep it away from my eyebrows. Vaseline maybe? I could be more careful.. but.. I usually can't wait to be done washing my face.

Thats so weird. I have been using proactive for a few months and just recently the last 2 days I have been looking in the mirror and wondering why in the world my eyebrows are turning blonde? Now I am online looking for solutions to the dry skin I have from proactive and I run into this add which completely explains why my eyebrows are bleaching!!!

My eyebrows are almost like a yellow blonde bc of my poractiv , but its never bleached my clothes or anything else !

After you apply the lotion clean your hands, then wet your finger and wash your eyebrow. A few swipes with a wet finger removes / dilutes the BP and won't bleach.

yes, I have been using proactiv for a couple months and my eyebrows are a gross blonde color. I have dark brown hair - it looks awful.

Proactive bleached my towels, eyebrows and bangs. In order to remove the damage, my bangs were cut really short. Trying not to cry.

yah proactive bleached my clothes, my eyebrows and my hair.

Honestly i have never noticed anything bleached like cloths , towels , pillow case , eyebrows etc . but i have tanish latin skin and everytime im done doing the process , my skin is white !!! IT BLEACHES MY SKIN ! :( i dont have tan skin anymore but im not that white as i was when i was using it because i stopped useing it for several months , but my pimples are growing back although this negative comment , i have to admit its a very nice acne cleanser and it works really good recomended to light skinned people ! (:

I had tried proactiv for years and the bleaching is horrible until i tried timeless prescription acne care system from marketamerica i love that product it is more $ but it is definitely worth it

It turned all my sheets white along with my clothes especially around the neckline since the lotion would rub off when I got dressed or undressed. As a solution to this, I would only apply lotion on after getting dressed and use a lotion cleanser before getting undressed. I tried sleeping on my back but didn't work. It even bleached my leather couch which was green and turned a lite yellow in the area exposed to lotion.

yes it bleached my new brown towels

It bleaches my eyebrows too!!! but weirdly i have a black comforter on my bed and i sleep where my face is on it and my face has never bleached it!! the product works great but be careful about the staining! i dropped it on my carpet and it made an orange spot. sometimes when i am about to dry my face it drips on my pjs and leaves white spots or it drips on the bathroom mat and turns it orange it also bleaches all my towels

Other than for spots, I actually use benzoyl peroxide to lighten my eyebrows because they're a lot darker than my dark blonde hair. It works a treat for me. :P

i love proative, but unfortunately it has bleached my towels and pillow case. i recently got a new bed set and i don't want it to be ruined....any way to prevent it??

There's really not much you can do. You can try to keep your face off of your pillow, but that's pretty much impossible. Proactiv contains benzoyl peroxide, and that's a bleaching agent.

I guess my only suggestion would be to wait for Proactiv to completely dry on your face, before you lay your face on your pillow.

Proactiv has bleached everything I own - sheets, towels, clothes - and my eyebrows! It is impossible for me to wear a collared shirt because if it rubs against my face, forget about it. Recently it was pouring outside, I was caught without an umbrella, and the water running from my face actually bleached my favorite shirt in streaks. No more Proactiv for me!!! It's just too freaking expensive to replace these things and there are other acne products out there that do not do this!

I was going nuts trying to figure out how all my really nice washcloths were getting bleached and then I noticed when I was washing the solution off a washcloth, it left bleach marks. Makes me so mad!

Anonymous said...

Bleached all my towels!
Threw it out right away.
Sure its only an annoyance but bleach is toxic, i dont want it anywhere near me without protection yet alone rubbed all over my face.

I think you are confused. Proactiv does not contain bleach. Rather, Proactiv contains benzoyl peroxide (2.5%) which is a bleaching agent.

I'm sorry to hear about your towels. I tend to use white towels when I use Proactiv / Acne.org.

I have been using Proactiv for the last few weeks and have been quite disappointed with how it has bleached my towels and some of my pillowcases. I wouldn't recommend this products to my friends.
