Back in Summer of '08, I was the guy that you'd find laying out in his backyard saying to myself, "Does tanning help acne? Well, I sure think so, because my skin definitely seems to be clearing up!"

And actually, my skin did clear up pretty well. In fact, it completely cleared. However, I was using Proactiv as well, so that was likely the main reason for my flawless complexion.

There are two sides to every story!

  • Site 'A' says that tanning helps acne!
  • Site 'B' says that it doesn't.

If you do your research, you'll see that a number of sites state that tanning will initially help your acne, but weeks later, cause your to breakout.

Other sites and people suggest that tanning on a regular basis will actually keep your skin clear.

My Experience!

  • My pimples disappeared!
  • My scars disappeared!
  • But I know that I was really damaging my skin.

In my experience, tanning actually helped my acne problem. Not only that, the darkness of my new skin tone actually began to blend my my scars, erasing them completely.

Now, I'm not saying that it helped my skin, because if anything, my skin became quite damaged. However, my pimples were completely gone, and I had a pretty nice tan, as well.

Recommendation:

  • Anything in moderation is okay.
  • Some sun may initially help clear your skin!
  • Too much sun can be damaging and may cause other problems.
  • Also, be sure to use sunscreen!

While tanning from time to time may actually help your acne, too much sun may cause some major problems in the future. Skin cancers, age spots, and wrinkles may appear at a younger age than normal, and nobody wants that.

If you do decide to tan, also note that it's important to use a non-comedogenic sunscreen on your face. This holds especially true if you're using a topical acne treatment. Not using sunscreen can result in major damages.

So Does Tanning Help Acne?

Some will, yes! Too much can actually damage your skin, causing your condition to worsen.
