Does Benzoyl Peroxide Cause Cancer?

Benzoyl Peroxide does not cause cancer.

In actuality, it's an overexposure to sun which can cause cancer.

If you look at the back of any topical acne product that you use, which contains benzoyl peroxide, you'll notice that warnings will say to, "avoid exposure to the sun while using this product."

With that being said, Benzoyl Peroxide likely decreases the skin's natural protection against the harmful rays of the sun, making it easier for those rays to penetrate, and cause cancer.

This is not actually true - in labs, Benzoyl Peroxide was shown to cause cancer in lab mice after a years use. No exposure to sunlight, or UV radiation. Just Benzoyl Peroxide.

That may be true as well, but it's also said that Benzoyl Peroxide weakens your skin's protection against things like the sun. That's why Proactiv, (which contains benzoyl peroxide) suggests using a sunscreen before going outside.
