If you are using Proactiv or any other acne treatment containing benzoyl peroxide, you have probably noticed that your skin has began to dry out.
Maybe you are experiencing skin that is:
- Dry
- Red
- Itchy
If these are some of the symptoms that you are experiencing, it is likely do to the fact that the acne treatment you are using contains benzoyl peroxide.
What Percentage of Benzoyl Peroxide?
The next question is, "What percentage of benzoyl peroxide does the product you are using contain?" We want to focus on this question, because it is said by Daniel Kern that you only need 2.5% benzoyl peroxide to get clear skin.
You should take the time to look at the ingredients on the back of your acne treatment. If the percentage of benzoyl peroxide reads above 2.5%, you may want to think about switching to Proactiv or Acne.org; To my knowledege, each of these solutions contain exactly 2.5% benzoyl peroxide.
Are you Applying Your Acne Treatment Correctly?
If you are using Proactiv, Acne.org, or another treatment containing 2.5% benzoyl peroxide or less anyway, you need to first make sure that you're applying your acne treatment correctly:
1. Are you using your acne treatment correctly?
2. Are you applying each step gently?
3. Are you using too much of a certain step?
4. Are you washing your face too often?
5. Are you using a moisturizer?
Other things that can exacerbate dry skin
If you have passed the above test with flying colors, then you need to check out the following test, and be sure that you pass it as well.
1. Do you drink soda?
2. Do you drink energy drinks?
3. Do you drink any "adult" beverages?
4. Do you drink enough water?
Final Thoughts
In my experience, people who are using Benzoyl Peroxide tend to be making at least some of the mistakes that I have listed in this article, which is why they tend to get dry skin.
If you're not making any of the mistakes listed here, then you should probably think about getting a different acne treatment.
